Sustainability and water quality

Water is one of the most crucial elements in sustainability and food safety. For our production to be truly sustainable, we must manage water resources efficiently and responsibly. Not only does this involve ensuring that water is used in a way that does not deplete natural reserves, but it also means adhering to stringent quality standards to guarantee the water used throughout the production chain is safe for the environment and consumers.
At Unispice, we have taken significant steps to ensure full control over the water we use. To achieve this, we’ve selected two primary water sources: harvested rainwater and deep-water wells. Each source has specific applications and benefits, allowing us to optimize our water usage while maintaining high safety and quality standards.


First, the water designated for irrigation is harvested from rainwater. This resource, exclusively used for irrigation, is not just collected, it also undergoes rigorous filtration and quality control processes. This careful management practice is based on a drip irrigation system, which delivers water directly to the plant roots about ten centimeters into the soil. This method ensures that the harvested water never comes into direct contact with the plant foliage, reducing the risk of disease and contamination. Drip irrigation systems are highly efficient, minimizing water waste and ensuring plants receive the precise amount of water they need.


Deep-water wells are another critical component of our water management strategy. These wells provide a reliable and sustainable source of water that is essential for our regenerative agriculture and production practices. Unlike other water sources that can be affected by seasonal variations and climate change, deep wells tap into groundwater reserves that are stable and predictable. This ensures a consistent water supply, which is crucial for the health and growth of our crops.


Groundwater from deep wells is generally less susceptible to contamination than other sources. This significantly reduces the risk of introducing harmful elements into the food supply, ensuring that our produce is safe and meets the high-quality standards expected by our customers. By using water from deep wells, we can maintain a higher level of food safety and quality, which is a top priority for us.


Considering increasingly severe droughts and unpredictable weather patterns, effective water management has become more important than ever. Sustainable practices, such as rainwater harvesting and the use of deep-water wells, allow us to coexist harmoniously with natural resources. We’ve conducted comprehensive soil analyses to determine the best ways to manage water flow precisely, thereby minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency.
